Ristorante Farroni

The studio works with architecture, interior design, shops and fixtures, booths, trade fair and event installations, designing architectural space with a special focus on the materials they are made of and the atmospheres and emotions they convey.

Filippo Saponaro was born in Ferrara on 22.03.1973. He registered at the Architecture Institute of Venice University in 1992 and is now a registered member of the professional order of architects of the province of Udine.

We wanted the tiles to convey that sense of familiarity, and their shape and colour to recall the tiles everyone remembers from their grandmother’s kitchen, or the inns and dairies of their childhood… of course the Kraklé collection shown at the trade fair was perfect for this, blending tradition with modernity.

I really like the company, and I like the products it makes: the rectangular series, the hexagonal tiles, the diamonds… the different colours… and the fact that they went back to the shapes and colours of tiles we all remember from the past.

We started working on the restaurant design in 2013. The proprietor was aware of the importance of design and liked the idea of going back to the old bistros, Viennese cafés and old-fashioned bars. He wanted a big steel industrial cooker with a big hood over it. The idea of using bottle green 15×7.5 cm Kraklè tiles in a herringbone pattern was the perfect way of interpreting the past and combining it with the modernity of steel, all to give the kitchen a familiar, homey feel. The bathroom floors are paved with Examatt hexagonal tiles in matt black, light grey and must.
