What were your goals in the choice of covering (or flooring) materials?
In view of the minimal structural changes to be made in the renovation of this new home for a young couple in Rome’s Parioli district (aimed primarily at adding a second bathroom and a second bedroom), the project revolves around the choice of finishes and furnishings, making a young couple who had been strangers to the world of interior design into passionate partners in the planning of the renovations.
In keeping with the 1930s atmosphere of the building, oak parquet was laid in a diagonal French herringbone pattern and delicate hues of white, powder blue and antique rose paint were applied, preserving the existing arches and cornices.
In this warm, cosy basic layout, furnishings were inspired partly by Scandinavian design and partly by the Italian tradition, on the basis of a process reviving the flavours, styles and materials of the design of the ’50s and ’60s, combining historic icons of design with contemporary pieces to create a pleasing overall harmony.
Why did you choose Tonalite products?
The bathrooms, like the rest of the home, required a skilful blend of vintage flavour with contemporary elements, and we immediately found this character reflected in the Tonalite catalogue; in the ensuite bathroom of the master bedroom, for example, the custom-designed washbasin composition, in laminate of various colours, is combined with a diamond-shaped tiles with a definite vintage flavour.
What colours and combinations did you choose, and how did you use them?
White diamond-shaped tiles were sufficient to determine the background of the composition, in various laminates, while the mink colour in the other bathroom goes perfectly with the pale blue hues in various parts of the home.
